Oscars 2022: Will Smith smacks Chris Rock during the Academy Awards

 At the Oscars, Will Smith has struck comedian Chris Rock after he made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Smith ascended the stage and seemed to smack Rock before demanding at the comic not to use his wife's name. In his shout, Smith uttered an obscenity.

Later, during a speech after receiving the award for best actor, Smith apologized in tears. Smith's act as the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams in the film "King Richard" earned him an Academy Award for the first time in his career.

Backstage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, journalists were taken aback by what Smith had done with Rock.
